Conceptual Analysis

This project's objective is to combine conceptual prototypes and transform them into a functional and beautiful structure. This is managed through the analysis of the relationship between form and function.

Here the conceptual analysis bridges and the items used for the movement analogies are integrated to form prototypes for the final movable bridge design.

After being approved for the cable stay bridge based on the Octavio Frias De Oliveira Bridge in Brazil with the eye-lash curler as the movement function, I came up with the idea to use a track in conjunction with a pulley system powered by a motor to move the roadbed out of the opening. At first, I had 3 pulleys that were directly attached to the foldable segment which pulls the roadbed out of the opening and into the pocket between the structure. However, I quickly realized that some changes would have to be made to make the design work.

Additional changes to the structure were made to support the new pulley system which is now attached to a hook at the bottom of the rotating beam. As the beam is rotated by the pulleys, the roadbed moves upward along the track and into the pocket between the structure.
